The Penang Animal Sanctuary Society (PASS) is organizing a food fair on 27 June 2010 (Sunday) at Penang Time Square from 10am – 3pm to raise funds for a new animal shelter in Relau for stray dogs and cats as well as abandoned animals such as birds and reptiles. The proposed facilities for the sanctuary which will be developed as an Animal Aid & Care Center included a nursery, an exercise runway, a clinic and a rehabilitation centre. The Society is motivated by a deep compassion and love for all animals and a strong conviction that all life is precious and seeks to practice a ‘NO-KILL’ policy in the Sanctuary project.

We believe that all creatures are entitled to their rights to co-habit this planet with us and that all animals have a right to live out their normal and natural life. With great humble, we invite you to share in the efforts of making this world a better place for all Nature’s beautiful creatures.

What I saw.....she did this for 24 hours plus!

Look closely inside the cage. There is a new-born puppy inside (circled). I witnessed something I've never seen before in my life. Of course, I must say I'm not a dog breeder and the youngest puppies I have or seen are nursing ones. What is happening to this mother dog first surprised me, and then had my eyes welling up with tears.
The dog's 'mama' is the lady in the green blouse. I avoided her face as she was all teary, and puffy eyed. Look at the dog and what she is about to do. No, she isn't getting ready to poo. She is getting ready to try and push out another foetus and this.......she has been doing for the past 24 hours!!!! I don't know how many times she circled and did the act of pushing (delivering) the hour I was there. It was such a sad and pitiful sight. The look on the dog's face. The people at the Clinic asked the lady why didn't she bring the dog in to the Vet earlier. Lady said she didn't know and also she thought with the next push....the puppy will be delivered. Poor dog. Apparently (as what the lady told us there), her children thought it would be nice to have a litter of puppies! Maybe the male was a larger breed?? Have to say not all know everything about dogs. According to the Veterinarian, the puppy is too big to be delivered naturally. Dog will be operated on to have the puppy/puppies taken out. Let us hope the lady learnt something from this experience. :o)

A dog's agony....

A female dog that lived around the shops/eateries....Hunzi is the name given by those who 'noticed' her. She used to move in a pack of about 7 dogs. 4 were shot dead and when what was feared the worst for her....she appeared. 2nd chance in life for her to re-live the ordeal of running and hiding when the shooting people came around? Well, she did survive the first round with a hole in her back. Now why is she here in my blog? To tell her story which she can't obviously.....her agonies so I'm doing it for her. She may be just a voiceless animal but Chris (owner of Blue Reef) and I think she deserved to live. This was what happened.
Someone ran over her leg with a motor-cycle. That was what the Vet said. Now why don't I want to believe or agree? There are two more dogs with the same kind of injury....broken legs. All ran over by motor cycle/s? The night before both Chris and I had managed to have her collared, chained to the tap with double leashes. We have to make sure that she won't escape. Woe me.....the next morning when I arrived to take her to the vet, all I found was the two chains and collar. Right, she managed to slip her head out of the collar. It wasn't easy looking for her in the daylight. 'Disappeared' will be an appropriate word. After much searching, she was found sleeping in this man hole. Does this sight alone tug at your heart strings???? Take a look at the following pictures. Paw badly injured, bone sticking out. Does she deserve this? The wound doesn't look so severe but if you look at the way she limps you would know it was bad. She had to lie down to eat whatever food you give her.......know the immense pain she is enduring? Despite all these......she wags her tail when you approach her and licks your hand when you feed her. That's the beauty of caring for her....for these animals. Their gratitude.

The wait for the Vet took too long. Here Hunzi decided to lie down after much coaxing. She is currently staying at the Vet having her wound treated, broken bone and all. She will be spayed and with God willing....she won't have to go back to the streets again.... Please help make the vision, the dream of P.A.S.S. come true. Help in whatever way you can. Thank you. :o)

'Together We Care' - Concert

I attended the P.A.S.S. 'Together We Care' charity concert. I think the name given to this concert was very appropriate. I couldn't take any pictures once I was inside the hall. It wasn't allowed for those with cameras using the flash to avoid any distraction.

Committee members hard at work.

Vice-President of P.A.S.S., AR Parama Nathan giving an overview of the Penang Animal Sanctuary project.

Grand Piano up on the stage. Yes, it is a Classical Music concert.

The Mutiara Choir. Besides the Mutiara Choir we have also; Mr Loo Ban Hean, Ms Angel Lee, Mr Jonathan Oh, Ms Khoo Hooi Lay and Ms Marlene Fox performing. Piano, Cello, Soprano, Solo singing.....and even an ochestra. The Penang Free School Orchestra. It was a great concert.
Picture of the audiences.

To the organizers of this concert.....Well Done!:o)

**This darn composing thing is driving me crazy. If you read this post, just try to match the pictures with the description. TQ. The matching can't be done lately. Grrrr.....

Giving up? Read this....!

Thought I'd share this....Enjoy!
One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a
well. The animal cried piteously for hours as
the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the
well needed to be covered up anyway;

it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.
He invited all his neighbors to come over and
help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began
to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the
donkey realized what was happening and cried
horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he
quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally
looked down the well. He was astonished at what
he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his
back, the donkey was doing something amazing.
He would shake it off and take a step up.
As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel
dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it
off and take a step up.
Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey
stepped up over the edge of the well and
happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds
of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well
is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of
our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out
of the deepest wells just by not stopping,
never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up. :o)
